About the event

This is a two (2) day workshop where we will study and practice hands-on natural building techniques with an emphasis on Waddle & Daub.

The workshop is being led by Manuel Pinto, founder of Finca Las Hormigas.   He has been experimenting and working with cob the past few years.  He is finishing a cob house and invites you to come learn how easy it is to use this technique here in a tropical environment.

You will learn about the different cob building techniques: Cob, Adobe, Super Adobe, Rammed Earth, and Waddle & Daub

You will learn the theoretical techniques to build an earthen clay floor

You will have hands on practice to make and apply the Waddle & Daub technique

  • An introduction to curing bamboo using the boucherie method to be used for our waddle frameworks
  • Hands on preparation of ingredients to be applied in our mixes:  local clays, sands, straws and other mix ingredients
  • Hands on preparation of different clay mixes of cob and plasters
  • Application of cob to walls using Waddle and Daub technique
