WHERE THE ANTS ROAM FREE

Finca Las Hormigas is nestled in the lush Talamanca Mountains, just a short drive from Puerto Viejo.  Surrounded by jungle, wildlife, and vibrant nature, the farm offers a serene space to explore, relax, and connect with the land and our welcoming community.

Whether you’re traveling from San José or already on the Caribbean coast, here’s how to find us.

GETTING TO LAS HORMIGAS FROM SAN JOSÉ

By Bus (most affordable option)
The MEPE bus runs daily from San José to Puerto Viejo.
Duration: approximately 4.5–5 hours
Cost: around $15–$20 USD
Departs from Terminal Atlántico Norte in San José.

Check the MEPE schedule in advance before traveling.

If you arrive in Puerto Viejo after 6:00 PM, we recommend staying overnight and continuing to the farm the next day.

By Shuttle (comfortable option)
Private and shared shuttle services offer direct trips from San José to Puerto Viejo.
Duration: about 4.5–5 hours
Cost: around $55–$70 USD per person

Shuttles can be booked online with companies like Caribe Shuttle or Interbus.

GETTING TO LAS HORMIGAS FROM PUERTO VIEJO

By Car or Tuk-Tuk

  • Drive via Margarita Road in Cocles until it connects to the Sixaola Road.

  • Continue driving past the Gasolinera Sixaola (Sixaola Gas Station).

  • 1 kilometer after the gas station, you will find the entrance to Calle Los Almendros, marked with a sign featuring an ant.

  • Turn left at this sign and drive all the way in until you reach the farm gate.

Note: A 4x4 vehicle is recommended for the terrain.

If you do not have a 4x4, tuk-tuks or a tall taxi can take you to the entrance.

By bus

  • Take the Sixaola bus from Puerto Viejo (approx. 40 minutes).

  • Ask to be dropped off at Gasolinera Sixaola.

  • ⚠️ Do not continue to Sixaola itself; it’s an hour past the farm.

  • From here, you can arrange a pickup with us in advance or hike in

IMPORTANT NOTES

Do not follow Google Maps directly to “Finca Las Hormigas.”
Instead, search “Finca Las Hormigas Entry” — this will lead you to the correct road that serves as the farm’s entrance. From there, simply drive straight until you reach the gate.

Arriving after 6:00 PM?
We recommend spending the night in Puerto Viejo and coming to the farm the next morning. Arriving with daylight will make your arrival smoother and easier to navigate.

Please make sure you have a confirmed reservation before arriving. We do not accept walk-ins. All visits, stays, and tours must be booked in advance.
