VOLUNTEER
PROGRAM
Finca Las Hormigas is a center for experimentation and education in regenerative living. Life on the farm is a balance of land-based work, communal living and constant learning.
Our volunteer program is designed for individuals seeking a deep immersion in sustainable project management and off-grid community life. This experience is perfect for travelers, adventurers, and nature lovers who want to give back through meaningful work, live close to nature and discover the wonders of community life.
We look for people who want to integrate into our rhythm, contribute their talents and understand first hand what it means to live regeneratively in the Caribbean jungle of Costa Rica.
CHOOSE YOUR PLACE ON THE FARM
We believe that a meaningful experience stems from a clear alignment between individual talent and collective necessity. To facilitate this, we offer four specific roles designed to ground your contribution in the farm’s essential daily tasks.
CONTENT CREATOR
Help our message reach further. If you have an eye for capturing moments, enjoy documenting processes, and know how to tell a story through a photo or a Reel, this is your space. We seek authenticity to showcase our day-to-day life, projects, and community to those following us from afar.
HOSPITALITY & HOUSE CARE
As the first point of contact for volunteers and guests, you facilitate a smooth integration into farm life. This role balances welcoming new arrivals with the logistical management of Zone 0, ensuring common areas and living spaces remain organized, functional, and clean. It is the essential engine of our daily harmony, ideal for those who are proactive, and detail-oriented.
CONSTRUCTION
Support the physical evolution of the farm through sustainable building and maintenance. This role involves everything from structural repairs to new creative installations. It is a hands-on position for proactive individuals with physical stamina and a basic command of tools.
FIELD WORK
A direct connection with the land and our food. This is a "hands-on" experience. You will participate in maintaining food systems. And harvesting and processing the food that ends up on our plates. This is physical work in regenerative agriculture, ideal for those with a positive attitude and respect for nature’s rhythms.
VOLUNTEER PROGRAM DETAILS
The Volunteer Program is open to anyone from 20 to 50 years who is adaptable, community-minded, and eager to learn by doing. No prior experience in farming or permaculture is required, just a willingness to work, share, and grow.
Work shifts are 5 hours, 5 days a week with free weekends, while becoming part of our community life.
The cost of the program is $100/week and includes:
Three full meals a day (seven days a week)
Accommodation and access to all farm spaces and amenities
A full month stay has a discounted price of $300/month
In support of those who live and care for this land, all Costa Ricans receive a 50% discount.
We encourage a minimum stay of two weeks to connect with the rhythm of the farm and get an immersive experience.
LIVE SIMPLY. GIVE GENEROUSLY. GROW TOGETHER.
RESPONSIBLE & REGENERATIVE VOLUNTEERING
Every volunteer contributes directly to responsible travel and regenerative tourism. Your time and energy support a working permaculture farm that prioritizes ecological restoration, local partnerships, and cultural respect.
At Finca Las Hormigas, we:
-
Collaborate with local Indigenous Bri Bri people for cacao ceremonies and cultural exchange
-
Support small family-run businesses in our nearby town
-
Donate plants, compost, and resources to local schools and community gardens
-
Maintain chemical-free farming systems and protect a wildlife reserve within our Permaculture Zone 5
When you volunteer here, you’re not just helping on a farm, you’re becoming part of a regenerative movement rooted in reciprocity, community, and care for the Earth.
If you’re looking for a place to slow down, reconnect, and give back, the Volunteer Program at Finca Las Hormigas offers a meaningful way to live your values and be part of something bigger.
Experience the beauty of shared work, shared meals, and shared purpose.
Because here, every act of care, from feeding the chickens to planting a tree, makes a difference.
